SFI Bellhousing Certifications - What Do You Need?
Throughout our website, you'll find SFI certification numbers listed in our product specs. Sometimes there is confusion about what those numbers mean. There are three (3) SFI bellhousing certifications, 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3. We will try to explain each so you can understand where it is used and required by the sanctioning body rules.
SFI 6.1 Certification
This certification is for any single disc clutch 10” and up with NO POWER ADDERS. IE: Super charger, turbo charger or nitrous injecting. This bellhousing can have a starter pocket and a stock clutch fork opening.
SFI 6.2 Certification
This certification is for any two disc or more clutch assembly’s. Mandatory for any vehicles using NITRO METHANE as fuel or can be used with any type of power adders. No starter pocket allowed. Must have a liner. Cross shaft only.
SFI 6.3 Certification
This certification is for any two disc or more clutch assembly’s using any type of power adder other than Nitro Methane. Bellhousing can have a starter pocket. Must have a liner. Cross shaft only.
The SFI 6.2 and 6.3 bellhousings are required by NTPA rules and must be used.
The SFI containment specifications require the use of 7 bolts in the upper half of the bellhousing and 8 bolts in the lower half. Grade 8 bolts are required. These are minimum bolt requirement per the SFI specification for the bellhousings. The use of the 4 anti-rotator bolts (the 4 big bolts in each corner) are mandatory for both 6.2 and 6.3 bellhousings.
